Sculptural birds

This series of birds is inspired by my visits to th Finnish glass factories Iitalla and Nuutajäarvi seeing the birds designed by Oiva Toikka being made. Many of these ended up in my personal collection of glass. My interpretation is a loosely abstracted avain form that allowed me to experiment with size shape and colouring effects in the glass. Each bird is unique but clearly belongs to the same design language.  In time this series will evolve into abstractions of the magical brightly coloured birds of the tropics and Africa, and then finally into the completely fantastical arena
